Thank you for your interest in joining the New York City Law Department.  If you will graduate in 2026 or you have already graduated, but are clerking or have an academic fellowship that ends in Spring/Summer 2026, you may use this application to apply for an entry level attorney position at the Law Department.  The Law Department typically hires 40-80 entry level attorneys a year primarily for the following litigating divisions: Tort, Labor and Employment, Special Federal Litigation, Family Court, Commercial and Real Estate Litigation, General Litigation, and Workers' Compensation.  If you are interested in the Law Department Honors Fellow position, which is a one-year paid position for one or two recent law school graduates who work on policy issues and significant legal matters facing the City, there is a separate application for that position (https://www1.nyc.gov/site/law/careers/corporation-counsel-honors-fellowship-program.page).  You may apply for both an entry level attorney position and the Corporation Counsel Honors Fellowship position. 

If you have graduated law school prior to 2026 and have not been clerking or in an academic fellowship, you should apply for specific job vacancies as they are posted under the "recent graduates" (https://www1.nyc.gov/site/law/careers/current-vacancies-for-recent-graduates.page) or "admitted attorneys" (https://www1.nyc.gov/site/law/careers/current-vacancies-for-admitted-attorneys.page) sections of our website.  

Please complete the required fields and attach your resume, cover letter, law school transcript, writing sample, and the names and telephone numbers of three professional references to apply for an entry level attorney position.
